ELIGIBILITY 

The scholarships are open to adults who meet all the following criteria:

  1. Reside in the Houston Designated Market Area (DMA) and surrounding counties that receive the Univision signal broadcast on channel 45 and are US legal residents.

  2. Have a high school diploma or GED.

  3. Have an outstanding reputation and be in good standing in the surrounding community.

  4. Are Bilingual (Spanish/English)

  5. Have a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher based on a 4.0 scale from high school or past college.

  6. Must meet Lone Star College entrance criteria for admissions. (https://www.Lone Star.edu/admissions.htm)

  7. Must review and acknowledge the list of programs eligible to study under this program. (https://www.Lone Star.edu/univision)

  8. Are not employees or agents and are not immediate family of and do not reside in the same household of, employees or agents of (a) Univision or Lone Star College, and (b) any participating sponsors or their respective parents or affiliates; and (c) persons who are engaged in the development, production, distribution of materials, or drawing of scholarship recipients for this scholarship.

HOW TO APPLY:

  1. A complete and legible Scholarship Application

  2. Copy of these Rules acknowledged by the registrant.

  3. One (1) photograph of the registrant.

  4. Answers to the questions provided in the application form. 

  5. Submit a 500-word Essay on: “How A Lone Star College Scholarship Will Help Me Attain Greater Education or Certification that will Enhance My Career Path or Pursue a Career Shift.” The essay should be double spaced.

AWARD

  1. One Lone Star College scholarship valued at a maximum of up to $15,000 provided the recipient remains academically eligible. There will be no cash payout of any remaining scholarship dollars should the recipient complete their studies if the entire $15,000 is not used. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees only and must be used within three years.  The scholarship award will be presented at Univision studios in a closing event in or around October of 2023. 

  2.  To receive the scholarship award, valued at a maximum of up to fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000), the scholarship recipient:

  3. must sign a release and any other document requested by Univision and/or scholarship sponsors.

  4. must participate in Univision’s preparation of a biographical piece on the scholarship recipient and/or attend the closing event requested by Univision that may be used to promote this scholarship, Lone Star College, and Univision. 

  5. Must submit to Univision evidence of application to Lone Star College.

  6. Must complete required steps for admission, be admitted, and enrolled at Lone Star College within calendar year, 2024.  Required steps for admission will be communicated to the student by December 31, 2023.  Failure to complete required steps for admission or participate as requested in this section, will be interpreted as though the scholarship recipient has forfeited his/her right to receive the award and the recipient will not receive the award.
